Our School Sports Day

Every year in March, my school has a Sports Day. Last year, I was in Grade 7, and our class teacher asked me to join the 400-meter race. I wasn't very happy about it. I was a slow runner, and my friend Quân was much faster than me. But our class needed one more runner, so I agreed.

For two weeks, I practiced every afternoon after school. Quân helped me. He ran next to me and gave me advice. "Don't start too fast," he said. "You should save your energy for the last 100 meters." On the first day, I couldn't finish the whole distance without stopping. By the end of the second week, I could run it without a break.

On Sports Day, the school field was full of students and parents. Everyone was wearing their class T-shirt, and the noise was incredible. Some students were playing tug of war, and others were cheering for the long jump.

When it was time for my race, my legs were shaking. There were eight runners, and most of them looked stronger than me. The teacher blew the whistle, and we started. I remembered Quân's advice and ran slowly at first. After 300 meters, many runners were getting tired. I still had some energy, so I ran faster and faster. I passed one runner, then another, then another.

I didn't win the race. I finished in fourth place. But my classmates were cheering my name, and Quân ran over and hugged me. My time was the best result in my class.

That day, I learned something important: you don't have to be the fastest person. You just have to try your best and never give up.
